I recently had the opportunity to work with the local YWLP of UCF. In case you don't know what that stands for, its the Young Women Leaders Program. Its a mentorship program where about 30 college women pair up with girls in middle school to foster all kinds of skills. They highlight things like leadership, communication, problem-solving skills, community connection, self-confidence, and empowerment. Just to name a few.
A student, friend, and mentor in this program, Brittany Gil, reached out to me a few months ago about hosting a couple fundraising classes for their group. We met up and shared some ideas, planned, and schemed, and stayed in touch with a certainty about making the event happen. After all, they had a small goal of about $350.00 to meet the needs of their program.
So, we set a date, made a flyer, I announced it in my classes, we made a Facebook event. BOOM! Just like that, before the event even began, our community stepped up and made some donations. Day of the event we made almost double their goal. And, we had a pretty great time getting together to do something good for our own bodies and minds.
So this had me thinking and feeling... What other charities can I fundraise for? What speaks to my heart? The hearts in my community? How can I give back more? I've decided I'm hooked. I want to support as much as I can. So I'm looking for more creative ways to do this. If you have an idea. Please reach out! I am ready to get down and dirty with y'all. Whether its a yoga fundraiser, or beach clean-ups, or volunteer work, I want to pitch in. How about you?
